Game Info
Canasta was released as a Club Pogo game on July 29, 2004.
There are currently 36 badges in total released for this game.
It is a classic card game that was invented in South America, before becoming extremely popular in the United States in the 1950's. The object of the game is to reach 5,000 points before your opponent. Canasta can be played with 2 players or 4 players (2 teams). 4-player Team Canasta is just like regular 2-player Canasta, except that both members of the team contribute to a shared meld pile. Game Tips
If you would like to play against a computer opponent, choose the tab of the Skill Level you would like to play. The computer opponents on Social and Beginner tabs have the same skills as a human player at beginner level. The computer opponents other tabs are increasingly skillful. The most skillful computer players are on the Master tab.
Try to pick up the discard pile. Don't meld unless it helps you pick up the discard pile. The person with the most cards often wins.
Game must be finished to get credit for red 3's. Rank progression is made win or lose.
Make your opening meld as small as possible, and try to be the first to get the discard pile.
Discard cards that are only worth 5 points (4 - 7) and collect high-scoring cards.
Hoard special cards like Black 3's, Jokers and 2's and use them strategically to freeze the discard pile and/or increase the value of your melds.
Don't get caught with wild cards and high-value cards in your hand when your opponent melds out - if it looks like your opponent is ready to go out, add your wild cards and high-value cards to your melds.
Watch what your opponent melds and discards in order to avoid discarding cards that will help your opponent build canastas or pick up the discard pile.
Click the Ctrl key before clicking one of your cards in order to select all of the cards of the same value. Click the Shift key before clicking your cards in order to select every card in your hand.
Badge Tips
For badges that need Canastas Pick up the pile as much as possible, game does not need to be won,but must be finished.
For badges that require Meld-outs Basically you need to meld out before your opponent/s so concentrate on this and don't pick up the pile unless you're certain that you can get rid of all cards.
Getting Red 3's Try not to meld out until all four red 3's have come out, you can change options to a minimum of 2 canasta's to meld out, game may last a little longer then.
Cool Cat Badge Make sure you don't use wild cards (Jokers and 2's) to get canasta's.
Four Player games For "Cool Hand" and "Soap Opera" badges, make sure you select "4-Player Games" tab on room selection page.
